A well-known and prominent commercial photographer based in Portland, Oregon, Barbara Peacock works throughout the United States. She has started a new project in which she plans to use detailed personal photos taken in bedrooms around the country to picture the hidden and transparent nuances of who Americans are as individuals and as a nation. Her objective is to capture the transparent and covert complexity of what makes Americans unique.
She asks strangers to participate in the project in a variety of ways, such as by asking them on social media or by leaving a note with all the details at local businesses. Some of the people who appear in her images are acquaintances of the author, while others are complete strangers.
