Joyce Spakman, a professional makeup artist and fashion designer, has spent the previous two years developing the porcelain corsets that have become her signature. During the COVID lockdown, she admits in an interview with DeMilked that she started experimenting with various concepts and ideas. She explains, “I started experimenting, and by chance, I designed a corset that looked like porcelain but is still wearable!” “I started experimenting, and I designed a corset that looked like porcelain by accident.”
The designer has been working in the costume industry for the past nine years. “I began with the more diminutive headpieces. In this day and age, the larger something is, the better it is, and costumes can’t be large enough or have enough detailing “, she says. Concept art, historic architecture (mainly gothic cathedrals), historical clothing, and other such things are all sources of creativity for Joyce. In the following-gallery, you can see-some of the most stunning examples of the corsets she has designed.

Joyce explains to us some of the specifics of her creative process, and one of those things is that it always begins with a theme. “I spend a lot of time, particularly on Pinterest, looking at concept art, historic architecture, and historical clothing to get ideas for my work. After that, I make a preliminary drawing and move on to the next step, which is creating the item. Creating a complete costume often takes around a month from beginning to end. “She went into more detail.

“When everything is complete, I frequently additionally craft a background, props, etc. to finalize all the details,” the artist says about the effort that goes into the preparation for the photoshoots. After that, I am responsible for arranging the photoshoot, which I do most of the time in conjunction with the Model and the photographer; however, there are times when I am alone and responsible for all the arrangements. On this particular day, I am also in charge of the bodypaint and the cosmetics!
